Our History

Forest Systems HistoryForest Systems was founded in 1998 by a group of forest investment professionals who were interested in developing a new investment model – the forest operating company – to help institutional investors own large tracts of high quality commercial forestland within a structure that would enhance investment liquidity and ensure strong alignment of financial interests with management.

Over a ten-year period, our team built and sold three, large, domestic investment portfolios valued at more than $800 million and advised private equity clients on the acquisition and liquidation of more than 2.5 million acres worth $2.5 billion.

In early 2008, we redesigned our firm to pursue a broader range of global forest investment opportunities, placing a particular emphasis on the additional value streams associated with the creation and commercialization of forest-based carbon credits.

Forest Systems HistoryToday, having bolstered our traditional expertise in forestry and portfolio management by adding unrivaled carbon commercialization expertise – Forest Systems offers a combination of skills and capabilities that clearly and compellingly distinguish us from others operating in the forest investment space. The new Forest Systems is designed to produce returns far in excess of those previously achieved with forest investments. In short, our strategy is designed to create private equity-like investment performance returns while employing risk management measures that are consistent with the asset class’ traditional profile.
